Tokyo AI Visibility Index

What do AI assistants say when someone in Tokyo asks, in English, for an English-speaking dentist, clinic or visa specialist? The Tokyo AI Visibility Index will answer that with data: how AI assistants answer real customer questions about Tokyo businesses, by sector, measured the same way each edition.

What the Index Will Show

For each sector in an edition, we will publish:

  • How many answers named any business at all, and how many gave no specific recommendation.
  • How concentrated the answers are: whether AI tends to name the same few businesses or spreads its answers widely.
  • Which kinds of sources AI cited: Google profiles, business websites, directories, guides and lists.
  • How often answers gave facts that contradict the business's own published information (for example hours), counted at sector level only.
  • Differences between assistants: ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI Mode, with Google's AI Overviews noted when they appear.

What the Index Will Not Do

  • It will not name or rank individual businesses. Results are published at sector level only.
  • It will not call anything a "rank". AI answers change from one run to the next, so we report counts and rates with the sample size.
  • It will not be paid for. No business can pay to be included, excluded or described.
  • It will not give medical, legal or tax advice, or judge the quality of any business's work.
  • It will not let readers identify a business. We will not publish figures for groups so small that a business could be recognized, or quote AI answers that name a business.

Organic Standard sells AI visibility services to businesses in these sectors. Clients and non-clients are measured the same way, and the Index never says whether a business is a client.

How It Will Be Measured

The Index uses the same method we use for clients, described in How we measure AI visibility:

ElementFirst edition (planned)
SectorsDentists, and visa specialists / tax accountants
Answers per sectorAbout 120
AssistantsChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Mode
LanguageEnglish questions, asked from Tokyo
Published with each editionThe questions asked, the assistants, the dates and the sample size
Not publishedThe names of individual businesses

Plans can change before the first edition; anything that changes will be stated in the edition itself.

Why an Index for Tokyo?

Most studies of AI answers about local businesses are from the US, the UK or Australia, or from Japanese-language searches in Japan.

For example, one Japan study found that about 70% of Japanese-language local AI Mode answers referenced Google business cards. Source: GMO TECH, Japan study, August 2026; English not measured. A large study outside Japan found that business websites were the source of 42% of local AI citations. Source: BrightLocal, local AI visibility study (September 2026; 1,967,762 citations from ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and AI Overviews) and directory sources article (August 2026; same data; Google Business Profile 28.6%; locations in the US, UK and Australia, not Japan).

We have found little published data on what AI says when people in Tokyo ask in English. The Index aims to fill that gap with open, dated, sector-level numbers.

Who It Is For

  • Tokyo businesses that serve international customers, to see how their sector shows up in AI answers.
  • Journalists, community groups and chambers of commerce looking for data about English-language search in Tokyo.
  • Anyone curious about how AI assistants describe local businesses.
